Frequently Asked Questions

Novak Woodworks

We’re proud to handcraft custom pieces with care and precision. Below are answers to common questions about materials, timelines, care, and what to expect when working with us.

How long does it take to complete an epoxy river table?

Epoxy river tables typically take between 3 to 9 months to complete. Timeframes depend on material sourcing, design complexity, curing periods, and our shop schedule. Quality takes time, and we never rush it.

How long does epoxy take to dry and cure?

Epoxy dries to the touch in 24–72 hours, but full curing takes up to 20 days. We follow proper curing times to ensure strength and clarity before moving forward.

How long does the final finish take to cure?

After applying the final finish (such as oil, hardwax, or epoxy topcoat), curing time ranges from 7 to 30 days. While light use may be possible earlier, full durability is achieved after full curing.

Is hardwood furniture heavy?

Yes. Hardwood is dense and heavy. Larger tables and solid slab pieces often require multiple people or a moving team to handle safely. Plan ahead for delivery and placement.

Can epoxy crack or break?

Yes, although durable, epoxy is a type of plastic and can be brittle under stress. Sharp impacts, extreme temperature changes, or heavy weight can cause damage. Handle with care to preserve your piece.

Is it normal for hardwood to crack or move over time?

Absolutely. Small cracks, shifts, or minor separations in hardwood are normal due to seasonal changes in humidity. These are part of the natural beauty of real wood and are not considered defects.

How do I care for an epoxy table?

  • Use coasters and trivets to protect from heat and moisture.

  • Clean with a soft, damp cloth — avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools.

  • Never place hot pans or sharp objects directly on the surface.

  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading or yellowing.

  • Don’t drag heavy objects across the epoxy surface.

How do I care for a live edge or solid wood table?

  • Avoid direct sunlight, heat vents, and extreme humidity.

  • Use coasters and placemats to prevent stains or damage.

  • Maintain indoor humidity around 35%–55% to limit wood movement.

  • Wipe spills promptly and clean with a non-abrasive cloth.

  • Use wood-safe oil or cleaner based on the table’s finish (ask us for recommendations).

Is your furniture weatherproof?

No. Our outdoor furniture is moisture-resistant, not waterproof.

  • Do not allow furniture to sit in standing water.

  • Avoid full sun exposure for extended periods, as it can speed up fading and wear.

  • Use furniture covers and place items in shaded or protected areas when possible.

Do you offer military discounts?

Yes! We proudly offer discounts to active duty military and veterans as a thank you for your service. Please let us know at the time of your order.

Can I return my order?

  • Custom pieces are non-returnable.

  • Premade items may be eligible for return at our discretion, especially if a custom color or finish was chosen.

  • Items must be in original, unused condition. See our Return Policy for full details.

Is every piece perfect?

We strive for excellence in every project, but no handmade piece is ever truly "perfect." Small variations, minor imperfections, and natural inconsistencies in wood and resin are expected and part of the character of handcrafted furniture.
